Mondo is proud of the accolades it received for its track at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels in September. The resurfacing of the track at the Stade Roi Baudouin with Sportflex Super X 720™ was seen as an exciting innovation. During the event, Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen set the world record for the 2000 metres and other records, underlining the effectiveness of the new track. The director of the Van Damme Memorial, Kim Gevaert, commented positively on the improvement of the track: "The King Baudouin Stadium has always had a good track, but before it was really worn out. It was time for a new one."
Next year's Diamond League finals at the Stade Roi Baudouin are expected to see further record-breaking, just before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Mondo will also provide the athletics track at the Stade de France.
During the 2024 Diamond League, all eyes will be on Rome, where the iconic and historic Olympic Stadium, along with the Stadio dei Marmi - frequently used as a warm-up track in Diamond League meetings - will sport new tracks this summer, supplied by Mondo.
Mondotrack WS™ athletics track will be installed at the Olympic Stadium, while a Sportflex Super X 720™ K39 will be installed at the Stadio dei Marmi, guaranteeing top-level performance in both scenarios. For more info on the supply read this article.
This year, Xiamen joined the Diamond League circuit on 2 September 2023, when the 53,000-capacity Egret Stadium in the south-east China port city was inaugurated.
The meeting was distinguished by four record-breaking scores in the first official event held on Sportflex Super X 720™ .
Among other Diamond League circuit stadiums equipped with Mondo tracks, the Stade Charlety in Paris and the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow also feature Sportflex Super X 720™ surfaces, including London's Mondotrack WS™.
In 2023 Paris saw world records in the men's 3000m steeplechase and women's 5000m, with Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma and Kenya's Faith Kipyego running in 7:52.11 and 14:05.20 respectively, while Jakob Ingebrigtsen set the two-mile world record in 7:54.10.
The Silesia meeting witnessed three continental records this summer, while five other continental records were set in London, including Femke Bol's extraordinary 51.45 in the 400m hurdles, which was not only a European record but also a Diamond League record.
